Coupling Crustal‐Scale Rift Architecture With Passive Margin Salt Tectonics: A Geodynamic Modeling Approach

چکیده
Continental rifted margins are often associated with widespread, thick evaporite (i.e., salt) deposits and pronounced salt tectonics. The majority of basins formed during the latest stages rifting, prior to continental breakup. We use 2D thermo-mechanical finite element modeling lithospheric extension investigate interplay between margin architecture, late syn-rift deposition, post-rift focus on four different types margins: (a) narrow, (b) intermediate, (c) wide, (d) ultra-wide margins. evaluate the: laterally variable extension, deposition tectonics, influence basin architecture flow, spatial temporal distribution salt-related structural domains, contrasting styles tectonics for types. Narrow intermediate form partially isolated prominent base-salt relief, limited translation but significant diapirism, minibasin development. Wide wide subtle relief that results in seaward expulsion overburden translation. These demonstrate updip development normal faults rollovers, mid-margin complex diapirism downdip diapir shortening. All contain a distal nappe varies width complexity. also test effect viscosities, relative post-salt progradation rates, pre-salt sediment thicknesses. comparable several examples salt-bearing improve our understanding their dynamics controls variability.

Tectonics of early Earth: Some geodynamic considerations
Today, plate tectonics is the dominant tectonic style on Earth, but in a hotter Earth tectonics may have looked different due to the presence of more melting and associated compositional buoyancy as well as the presence of a weaker mantle and lithosphere. Here we review the geodynamic constraints on plate tectonics and proposed alternatives throughout Earth’s history. Observations suggest a 100...
متن کاملSystematic destruction of K-feldspar in deeply buried rift and passive margin sandstones
Systematic patterns of detrital K-feldspar decline with increasing burial depth are revealed during deep burial (1.5–4.5 km) of sandstones in diverse sedimentary basins from three rift and two passive margin settings in the North Sea and USA Gulf Coast. K-feldspar destruction is predominantly by dissolution, though in-situ alteration to albite also occurs. Dissolution can remove up to 15% solid...
متن کاملUnderstanding Harim in Architecture with a Phenomenological Approach
Architecture reflects the human perception of their existential relations with the world andtherefore it creates meaningful places. Every place with its boundaries concretizes a Harim, whichis the manifestation of such existential relations. This interrelation between the boundary (Marz)and the Harim may cause us to assume them both the same, but these two are different. Althoughevery Harim has...
